shop class as soulcraft
Read: Shop Class as Soulcraft by Matthew B. Crawford: "Shop Class as Soulcraft brings alive an experience that was once quite common, but now seems to be receding from society: making and fixing things. Those of us who sit in an office often feel a lack of connection to the material world and find it difficult to say exactly what we do all day. For anyone who felt hustled off to college, then to the cubicle, against their own inclinations and natural bents, Shop Class as Soulcraft seeks to restore the honor of the manual trades as a life worth choosing."

Here's a link to another Norway-based professional rendering farm that i think do some epic work.

More along the expressive lines of dbox and Luxigon rather than groups like Atchain or Crystal, but each being either founded or supplemented by architects.
To me, the successful portrayal of a concept captured in early image is one of the most critical passages of our ideas which helps facilitate the confirmation of these thoughts in built form, space, and material later. A former boss used to tell me that the successful design of a space is one large hurdle, but the true success of a project is told in the experience of its built form and material activated by circumstance. I believe accurate conveyance of our conceptual ideas early on in projects helps us maintain the potency of our thoughts through development and helps cinch together the two ends of concept and realization through visual representation translating to experience.
The most memorable images for me tend to be the ones that involve some level of abstraction not necessarily particular to the architecture, but rather engaging the design with the perspectival experience of the viewer, engagement of context, or atmospheric phenomenon. Giving the right level of life with its honest imperfections to constructed scenes which i think tends to align or prepare one psychologically (on some level) for the realities of building. In this way i appreciate MIR's description of the origin of their name as it relates to their approach to expression. Ultimately, a level of super-humanism.
