some people need to be in proximity to the mountains or something larger than themselves in order to assess their significance in the world. for me, the ocean and its margins are the strongest indicator of our position in life. the ocean is a phenomenal register of beginning and end, but conceals the single largest element of mystery and wonder of what's beyond, below as well as being a reflection of above.
